Fire at Wunsiedel Site on September 10, 2024: Measures to Ensure Production and Supply Capability

On the morning of September 10, 2024, a major fire occurred at PFISTERER’s Wunsiedel site, impacting the entire operation. Fortunately, no one was injured.

According to initial findings, the damage is less than initially assumed. Some machinery can be repaired with manageable effort and goods ready for dispatch were unaffected. While investigations into the full extent of the damage have not yet been completed, PFISTERER currently anticipates that the previously rented facilities will not be usable in the foreseeable future. An internal task force has been set up to coordinate the necessary measures and develop solutions. The Executive Board is regularly on-site to support the staff and provide updates on the next steps.

The top priority at the present time is to minimize the impact on the PFISTERER Group's customers. In order to ensure the necessary resumption of production as quickly as possible and to avoid continued supply bottlenecks, PFISTERER has decided, after thorough examination, to temporarily relocate production to the nearest PFISTERER Group site in Kadaň in the Czech Republic. Over the next weeks, the necessary machinery will be relocated to resume production for Wunsiedel as quickly as possible. By immediately renting external office space in Wunsiedel, employees who are not directly involved in production can already resume their activities in their usual team environment.

“From an operational perspective, the swift relocation of production to Kadaň is essential for maintaining the business operations of our unit in Wunsiedel and there is no real alternative,” explains Johannes Linden, Spokesman of the Executive Board. “We will regularly review this decision in order to find a long-term solution, especially for the employees in Wunsiedel.”

Executive Board member, Dr. Konstantin Kurfiss, adds: “We understand that these measures represent challenges for our employees. That is why it is important to us to manage all changes in a socially responsible and transparent manner.”
