Technology transfer for overhead line insulator chains

The challenge

Réseau de Transport d’Électricité (RTE), operator of the largest transmission grid in Europe, needed a tailor-made integration of silicone composite insulators into existing chain designs that were originally designed for glass cap insulators. This placed high demands on the electrical and mechanical performance of the insulators.

The solution

PFISTERER supplied silicone composite insulators including protective fittings, which were perfectly integrated into the existing chain designs. Special end fittings have been developed to meet the mechanical demands in challenging environments such as mountain roads.

Special features

Silicone composite insulators offer significant advantages in heavily soiled and hard to access areas, as they are resistant to breakage and do not require regular cleaning. The insulators were successfully certified in extensive tests, and PFISTERER’s production facility in Kadaň was audited for its cooperation with RTE.
