Pioneering work in the North Sea: connection technology for the Global Tech I offshore wind farm

The challenge

Connecting the switchgear and transformers in the Global Tech I offshore wind farm, one of the first and largest commercial wind farms in the German North Sea, under extreme conditions and with stringent demands on the contact technology.

The solution

Development of a heavy-duty, plug-in connection system from PFISTERER for voltages up to 550 kV, the first offshore cable system certified by Germanischer Lloyd. Around 5,800 meters of cable were laid by 14 PFISTERER experts in the dry dock in Rotterdam in just 13 weeks.
