PFISTERER supplies technologies for the grid connection of the new Moray East offshore wind farm

The challenge

The safe and efficient grid connection of the Moray East Offshore Wind Farm poses technical challenges due to the complex infrastructure and the marine environment. Laying high-voltage cables over a distance of 34 km from the offshore substation to the onshore substation near New Deer requires sturdy and reliable solutions that can withstand the extreme conditions at sea.

The solution

PFISTERER supplies plug-in 220 kV CONNEX cable connections and MSA slip-on sleeves for connecting offshore wind turbines to the onshore grid. The ESS terminations from PFISTERER are also used at the onshore substation to create the cable connections to the overhead lines. The entire system is flexible and facilitates time-saving installation, which is crucial for the success of the project.

Products used

  • Plug-in CONNEX cable connections up to 220 kV
  • MSA slip-on sleeves
  • ESS terminations

Special features

The CONNEX system has been tried and tested in the offshore sector for over 20 years and offers many advantages such as resistance to salt water and UV radiation as well as offshore certifications from DNV GL. The one-piece design of the MSA slip-on sleeves minimizes the space required in the socket pit, which is a real advantage in the confined offshore environment.
