A matter of experience: insulating traverse for Wintrack

The challenge

In the densely populated Randstad in the Netherlands, with very low limit values for electromagnetic fields, TenneT's “Wintrack” project had to be realized with forward-looking and aesthetically pleasing compact lines. The challenge was to demonstrate both compliance with the strict electromagnetic flux density limits and the sturdiness of the composite insulators.

The solution

PFISTERER contributed its extensive experience in compact line technology and demonstrated impressive proof of compliance with the required parameters. Complex simulations were carried out to ensure that the electromagnetic flux density of just 0.4 microtesla is maintained. Furthermore, the sturdiness of the insulating crossbars was successfully demonstrated in a full-scale test setup in order to meet the higher load cases of the mast design.
