PFISTERER prepares Gussenstadt site for a carbon-neutral future
Winterbach, Germany – At PFISTERER climate-neutral production is no longer just a vision, it’s becoming reality. At its Gussenstadt site, the company is implementing a comprehensive sustainability strategy that spans renewable energy, resource-efficient processes and carbon-neutral mobility. PFISTERER is thus not only boosting climate protection but also regional value creation.

At the center of the new energy landscape is the company’s own photovoltaic system consisting of 1,148 modules covering an area of 2,293.79 m2. With a peak output of 487.9 kilowatts, the system already supplies all the site’s daytime electricity needs. At night, the additional electricity demand is fully covered by energy from a regional hydropower plant.
A further milestone is scheduled for next year: The construction of a biomass power plant on the factory premises. It will supply heat to much of Gussenstadt via a local heating network, using only wood waste sourced from the immediate region.
The transport route from the supplier Schmid Holzrecycling & Biomasse to the plant is less than one kilometer. This marks another step in PFISTERER’s transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy for heat generation.
MORE SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTION IN PRACTICE
PFISTERER is also continuously improving its production processes:
• Since spring 2025, 32 processing machines have been using a synthetic coolant and lubricant that is environmentally friendly and free from hazardous substances.
• A new briquetting plant compresses metal chips, recovers cooling water and returns both back into the cycle.
• At the new brass spinning facility, water is separated from metal chips: the brass is returned to the supplier, while the water remains in use at the plant.
RETHINKING MOBILITY: E-VEHICLE FLEET AND CHARGING STATIONS FOR EMPLOYEES
To promote sustainable mobility, the site now offers ten charging points and two fast charging stations, all free of charge for employees. The company fleet is being electrified: three pool cars, one company car and the entire forklift fleet already run on electric power. The rest of the company car fleet will follow within the next two to three years.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REGION AND THE CLIMATE
“For us, sustainability means rethinking every processes – from energy supply to mobility and production. We place particular emphasis on working with regional partners and value chains,” says Hermann Schuller, site manager at Gussenstadt. “This way, we take responsibility for the environment, our employees and the community – while also strengthening our competitiveness.”
